On Tuesday 12/4/2012 a township resident called police to report a possible scam.  The resident reported that she received a phone call from a male identifying himself as Officer John Wright of the US Government Office of Enforcement.  The male told the resident that there was a warrant for her arrest due to unpaid taxes and that she needed to pay $800.00 to avoid going to jail.  The male even threatened to have local police show up at her residence if she didn’t pay him.  The resident contacted the IRS who advised that they do not solicit unpaid taxes in this manner and that what she was describing was a scam.  There is also no US Government Office of Enforcement.

Residents are reminded to never give personal information such as social security numbers, credit card information, or bank account numbers over the phone or e-mail.  If you have any doubts or suspicions about a phone call, contact the police department for clarification.
