On the Saturday night 3/16/2013 into Sunday morning 3/17/2013 the Springettsbury Township Police Department, in conjunction with the Center for Traffic Safety, hosted a DUI checkpoint on Haines Road in the township.  The checkpoint began at 11pm and ran until 3 am and involved officers from several neighboring jurisdictions including Hellam Township, Spring Garden Township, York Area Regional PD and the York City PD.  Members of the York County Sheriff’s Department and York County Probation were also on hand to assist.   During the checkpoint 408 total vehicles were stopped.  Of those, 8 individuals were taken into custody for suspected DUI, one was arrested for possession with intent to deliver heroin, three juveniles were cited with violating the township curfew ordinance, one driver was cited for a child restraint violation, and three drivers were cited for license violations.  The Springettsbury Township Police would like to thank all the officers involved with this checkpoint and to remind residents to drive safe. Remember, always have a designated driver when enjoying time out with friends.
