Results of Recent “HEAT” Campaign on Rte 30

The Springettsbury Township Police Department recently participated in the Pennsylvania Aggressive Driving Enforcement and Education Project’s (PADEEP) “HEAT on 30” campaign.  PADEEP is a statewide initiative that utilizes crash data to identify aggressive driving locations.   Route 30 is one of these locations within Springettsbury Township.  The goal of any traffic enforcement campaign is to reduce accidents, reduce injuries and deaths as a result of aggressive driving and to educate motorists.   Officers from the department conducted two details on Route 30 westbound prior to North Hills Rd.   (This area of Route 30 is particularly dangerous as the signal light at North Hills Rd. is the first signal light on Route 30 westbound in York County.  The speed limit is reduced from 55 MPH to 40 MPH because of the signal light, however, many motorists continue to travel well above 55 MPH).  The details resulted in 34 traffic citations issued for violations of Pennsylvania Vehicle Code 3362 (a)(3) Maximum Speed Limits (with a high speed of 74 MPH in the 40MPH speed limit zone), two traffic citations issued for violations of Pennsylvania Vehicle Code 1543(a) Driving While Operating Privilege is Suspended or Revoked and one traffic citation issued for a violation of Pennsylvania Vehicle Code 1301(a) Registration and Certificate of Title Required.  One subject was transported to central booking for warrant service.
